Building Alaska

Jaffa Construction is Alaska’s premier power plant service company.  We install and service boilers, condensers, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, baghouses, piping, structural support, tanks, steam turbines, conveyors, and a variety of mechanical equipment in power plants throughout Alaska.  We perform maintenance during scheduled or emergency outages, installation, and design-build for new projects, retrofits, and other “upgrades.”

Depending on the size, scope, and time constraints of the project, we dispatch crews ranging from a few men to several dozen workers from different crafts, including Boilermakers, Pipefitters, Millwrights/Carpenters, and Laborers.  Our goal is the same each and every time: to deliver a top-notch product safely and efficiently.

Jaffa Construction, Inc. holds a National Board of Boilers and Pressure Vessel Inspectors “R” Stamp permitting fabrication and repair or boilers and pressure vessels.  But our expertise goes beyond boilers and pressure piping and vessels, extending into numerous other power plant systems.  We also team with the best electrical and specialty subcontractors in the business to provide our power industry customers with a complete package of services.

We work in virtually every power plant in Alaska and we’ve been part of some of the largest power projects in our state.  We know our way around Alaska’s power plants and strive to continue providing Alaska’s power producers with responsive, high quality services.

We are Alaskans, so we know that time is of the essence when your boiler fails – whether it helps power a community or industrial process, or heats a school, hospital, shopping mall, or military base.

Jaffa Construction sends fast acting “strike teams” to diagnose and repair boilers all over Alaska.  Our teams mobilize, respond, assess damage, and make critical repairs to industrial and commercial boilers in short order to get the power, heat, or process back on line.

With shops in Fairbanks and the Kenai Peninsula that maintain specialty tools and materials, our experience overcoming Alaska’s logistical challenges, and a highly skilled Alaskan workforce, we can be on site within hours of a call for an emergency boiler repair.

Jaffa Construction holds the following ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and National Board of Inspectors Code (NBIC) certificates/authorization

    H2, A, U, and PP

National Board "R" - Repairs and Alterations of boilers, pressure vessels, and pressure retaining items.

ASME "H2" - Heating Boilers

ASME "A"   - Assembly of power boilers per ASME Section I

ASME "U"   - Manufacture pressure vessels per ASME Section VIII, Div. 1

ASME "PP" - Fabrication and assembly of pressure piping per ASME Section I and B31.1

One of Jaffa Construction’s first projects was the fabrication of a fuel storage tank in Seward.  Today, we continue to build bolted and welded tanks for a variety of customers and uses around the state.

We can design, fabricate, and erect bulk storage tanks for water and petroleum products, complying with ASME, API, and AWWA standards.

Recent projects include a heated asphalt storage tank in North Pole,  bolted water storage tanks in Fort Yukon and Toksook Bay, and firewater storage tanks at power plants in Nikiski and Sterling.

In addition to boiler and power plant installation and repair, we perform a variety of new construction and repair services for clients of all sizes.    These include multinational oil companies, refineries, mines, universities, hospitals, fish processors, waste incinerators, and federal, state, local, and tribal governments.

Jaffa Construction often teams with other companies to accomplish customers’ goals.  We have a solid reputation both as a general contractor and subcontractor thanks to our skilled work crews and experienced management team.

Jaffa Construction has permanent offices in Seward and Fairbanks and field offices when needed for larger or remote projects.  We provide design-build, quality control, logistical, and administrative support to our crews and coordinate with other project team members.  Our shops on the Kenai Peninsula and in Fairbanks stock specialty tools and equipment and enable us to do off-site fabrication as needed.

We have the personnel, tools and facilities to take on a broad range of projects, and the experience needed to deliver quality results as a general contractor or as a member of a project team.

Jaffa Construction's owners, administrators, field supervisors, and workers all put safety as their top priority.  We are fortunate to employ a well-trained and highly skilled Alaskan workforce comprised of union Boilermakers, Pipefitters, Millwrights/Carpenters, Laborers, and other craftspeople who share our commitment to doing the job right, and doing it safely.

Our crewmembers recieve specific safety training related to our work activities, as well as NSTC or other customer-required training.  This supplements the safety training our workers recieve through their respective unions, such as the OSHA 10 & 30 and Rigging componenets of the Boilermaker's MOST program.

Decades of experience working safely in power plants, refineries, and other hazardous environments has earned us a reputation as a thoughtful contractor who will not cut corners. Recent safety highlights include an EMR of .79, receipt of ConocoPhillips Alaska's HSE Excellence Award, and a total of ZERO recordable injuries in 2014.

As a service company, we always strive to keep a strong open line of communication between our crew, our management team, and the customer so that everyone is "in the loop" as we work safely toward solutions that fit the customer's needs. That is our mission.
